- - SUPPORT FOR ANY FLAVOR OF WINDOWS
-
- CatFish will detect and scan long filenames on Windows NT as well as Win95.
- As a 16-bit utility, this version of CatFish now runs on Win 3.1x, WFW 3.11,
- Win95, WinNT, and all compatible environments such as OS/2.
-
-
- - DIRECTORY NAME SEARCHING
-
- CatFish will now also look for matching directory names, not just file names.
-
-
- - DISK SIZE AND DISK LABEL INFORMATION
-
- This version stores and displays the total disk capacity next to each catalog
- name. Disk labels are also stored, displayed, and exported when available.
-
-
- - FASTER AGAIN, LIMITS RAISED
-
- Due to improvements in the MetaKit library used by CatFish, it is noticeably
- faster during catalog searches. Catalog limits are now only determined by
- the 16-bit model: up to 8000 dirs/catalog, each dir with up to 8000 files.
-
-
- - USER INTERFACE ENHANCEMENTS
-
- Hitting the space key while on a directory selects it (same as double-click).
- In the file list, the space key tries to launch it (same as double-click).
- Navigation of directories is easier: they now collapse/expand as appropriate.
- Hit a key to jump to the next entry starting with the corresponding character.
- If the Shift key is held down, letter-jumps are done in the reverse direction.
- Parent directories are shown as white-on-gray to make them stand out more.
- The CatFish main window is now resizable, size/position is saved across runs.
- The "CATFISH.DAT" preference file (in same dir as CatFish) stores this info.
-
-
- - RUNNING MULTIPLE INSTANCES
-
- CatFish can now be launched more than once. Multiple copies of the utility
- can be started in different directories, each using their own set of catalogs.
-
-
- - KNOWN PROBLEMS
-
- On Windows 3.1x, the disk size of CD-ROMS and removable disks may be reported
- as 128 Mb. The total directory sizes reported by CatFish are still accurate.
- On screens with large fonts, the displayed texts can be incorrectly aligned.
-
-
- - DIFFERENCES
-
- CatFish now reports sizes over 99,999 Kb in Megabytes (was: 999,999 Kb).
- Furthermore the calculation has changed to: 1 Mb = 1024 Kb (was 1000 Kb).
- This brings sizes reported by CatFish in line with sizes reported elsewhere.
-
-
- - COMPATIBILITY
-
- This release can read catalogs from any of the previous versions of CatFish,
- the software if fully upward compatible. New catalogs saved by this version
- are not necessarily readable by previous releases of this utility, though.
- Disk info is only available for catalogs created by this version of CatFish.
